Costco Automotive Services: What’s Offered and What’s Not

Search for Costco’s car services and you get a confusing mix: tires, gas, batteries, a car-buying program, and a lot of guessing about oil changes and repairs. This guide separates what Costco itself says it provides from what people assume. Every service below comes from Costco’s own pages, read on October 12, 2026. Details vary by warehouse, so treat this as a checklist of what to ask, not a promise of what your local warehouse offers. Costco membership is required for most of it, and where Costco’s pages are silent, we say so rather than fill the gap.

Tire Center Services

The Tire Center is the one place Costco does hands-on automotive work. Costco’s tire page states that a tire purchase includes installation at no charge, but only for Costco members and only on tires bought from a Costco Tire Center. It adds that installation is not available for all vehicles or tires, and that extra component costs, including TPMS service pack fees, may apply. Vehicles built before 2002 need a call or visit to the warehouse first.

Costco’s maintenance list for tires reads: rotation, balancing, inflation checks and flat repairs for the life of the tire. Flat repairs must follow USTMA standards, which means some punctures can be repaired and some cannot. Costco also lists nitrogen inflation and new rubber valve stems under tire care, and describes a mileage, road hazard and manufacturer’s defects warranty that is not available for all vehicles or tires.

The part many people miss is what Costco will not install. Its Tire Center FAQ states that Costco will only install Costco-purchased tires, will not install golf cart or ATV tires, and will not install UTV tires used in street applications. Trailer tires are installed only if the trailer owner has the documentation. So the common assumption that Costco will rotate or mount tires you bought elsewhere is not supported by Costco’s own wording.

Appointments are booked at CostcoTireAppointments.com or in the warehouse. When we read the tire page, it noted that online scheduling was temporarily unavailable, so confirm your warehouse’s process before you plan a day around it. The FAQ also notes a self-inflation station is available during the same hours as the gas station.

To keep tires in good shape between visits, check pressure yourself. NHTSA recommends checking monthly with the tires cold, meaning the car has sat at least three hours or been driven less than a mile, and using the pressure on the driver’s door placard or in your owner’s manual, not the maximum number molded into the sidewall. Car Batteries at Costco

Costco’s battery category is Interstate Batteries, and its page lists a 36 month prorated warranty on automotive batteries, with advice to check the duration printed on the battery label. To choose the right size, Costco points to its online battery finder or the fitment guide at the Tire Desk, and says to check that guide before choosing an AGM battery.

What the battery page does not do is describe an installation service. It lists a how-to-replace FAQ but no Tire Center install offer, so do not assume the warehouse will fit the battery for you. Car batteries contain acid and can vent hydrogen gas while charging. If you swap one yourself, follow your owner’s manual and the battery label, and if you are unsure, have a shop do it.

Costco Gas Stations

Costco’s fuel FAQ says the fuel station is open to Costco members only, with one exception: customers using a prepaid Costco Shop Card do not need a membership. It lists Visa, most PIN debit cards and prepaid Costco Shop Cards as accepted payment. Costco says its fuels are certified to meet TOP TIER performance standards, and that regular is typically 87 octane and premium typically 91 octane. Not every warehouse has a gas station, and hours and prices differ, so use Costco’s station locator rather than assuming.

Costco’s page does not quote a per-gallon price or a standard saving, and neither do we. Prices change daily and by location, so compare the pump price against nearby stations on the day you fill up. Premium or regular, always use the octane your owner’s manual requires.

Costco Auto Program: New Cars and Repair Discounts

The Costco Auto Program is a member service, not a Costco dealership. Costco’s page describes prearranged pricing from approved dealers and a member advocacy program. Offers are dated and tiered by membership level. When we read the page, it listed a Volkswagen offer valid 09/18/26 to 01/04/27, with a $1,250 incentive for Executive members and $1,000 for Gold Star and Business members, and an INEOS Grenadier offer for Executive members. Those will change, so check the live page.

The second half of the program is the one most pages skip. Costco lists a vehicle parts and service discount: 15% off parts, service and accessories at participating service centers, up to $500 per visit, for every car in your garage. The listed services include 30K, 60K and 90K maintenance, wheel alignment and brakes. This is how Costco answers the question about repairs: it does not do them in the warehouse, it discounts them at outside shops.

The 15% and $500 figures create a simple ceiling worth knowing. Using Costco’s stated terms, the arithmetic works out as follows (our calculation, not a Costco table):

In other words, the discount stops growing once the eligible bill passes about $3,333 per visit. Big jobs get a smaller effective percentage, so for a major repair, get quotes from more than one shop. Participation varies, so confirm that a specific center takes the benefit before you book.

What Costco Does Not List

A few services people search for do not appear in Costco’s own lists. The Tire Center FAQ lists rotation, balance, nitrogen inflation, nitrogen conversion and flat repair. Oil changes, brake work and engine repair are not on it. We could not find a Costco page that says an oil change is available at the warehouse, so if you need one, call your warehouse and ask. For repairs, the Auto Program discount above is Costco’s route.
